Resources for Tonga
On Saturday, January 15th the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai volcano erupted causing immeasurable loss and damage to the livelihood of our brother's & sister's in Tonga. According a report from the United Nations (2022) over 80% of the population has suffered some direct effect from the tsunami.
The path for Tonga's recovery will be long and any support will be invaluable to these efforts. For those of us who are limited in our ability to send physical goods but can contribute monetarily - OSA has organized a list of global organizations who are actively collecting funds that will be used in the relief effort for Tonga.
New Zealand Red Cross - Pacific Tsunami Appeal
The New Zealand Red Cross has a fund that will be used to support the recovery of Tonga and surrounding islands that have also suffered from the tsunami.
They will be using the funds to address:

Providing access to safe, clean drinking water.

Providing first aid and medical relief supplies for families.

Contribute to future rebuild efforts once immedieate needs are addressed.

Tearfund - Tonga Volcano Emergency Appeal
The recent eruption in Tonga of an undersea volcano, triggered a tsunami that has caused damage to infrastructure, contamination of water and damage and destruction to food crops in Tonga. Click here to learn more
Service Disaster Pa'anga Assistance for Citizens of Tonga Name
This Pasifika Mutual Aid Collective was founded by Celina Tupou and her family. Their fund is unique in that they are both collecting funds which will be directly redistributed to families. In addition to having an application for our families in Tonga to apply through to receive direct support.

Friends of Tonga
The Friends of Tonga is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Peace Corps. In a recent interview with PMN Tonga, Friends of Tonga has been partnering with local community-based Tongan organizations to address the needs they've identified in recovering form the tsunami.

These activities include:

Providing WSH services (i.e., Water, Sanitary, & Hygiene services).

Contribute to the rebuild effort once immediate needs are met on conjunction with the Ministry of Education.
