Low Socio-Economic Status, Transfer Student, Community College Alum, Rural, Woman In STEM
Growing up low SES, starting at community college, and transferring in my junior year meant I had to learn fast how to advocate for myself and navigate the hidden curriculum of academia. My incredible mentors were the reason I was able to do this. I remember as a undergrad when a graduate student told me that they got paid for grad school– it felt like the possibilities opened up to me. Now, I want to be that resource for younger students. Additionally, I study how the brain and immune systems interact, so if anyone is curious about neuroimmune research or behavioral and systems neuroscience I am happy to discuss research and labs!
