Woman In STEM, East Coast, LGBTQ+, 1st Gen PhD

In college, my first mentor was Dr. Rosa Moscarella, my freshman genetics professor from Venezuela who seemed genuinely interested in helping her students succeed. She encouraged me to pursue science when I was doubtful, and I ended up joining the lab of Dr. Brigitte Holt. Through the end of college, I collaborated with Dr. Maanasa Raghavan, and was also mentored by Dr. Ludmila Tyler. When I graduated, I realized that I had made it with my Biochem degree - after wanting to give up so many times because I believed I could never make it - because of these women. The women that struggled before me, in a less accepting society, and paved the way for me to pursue science. I want to continue encouraging women that science is for them, for anyone, we just have to keep lifting each other up - that's what I hope to do for anyone who doubts their ability to be a woman in STEM.
