People often say that attending minority serving institutions do not prepare you for what comes after, but I definitely felt more than prepared for graduate school because I graduated from an HBCU. My motivations/biggest career goals in regard to pursuing a PhD in a STEM field are to one day serve as a mentor for younger Black scientists and to become a trusted, scientific voice within the Black community.
